February 6, 2008 - Wednesday - We go from La Ensenada Lodge on a boat ride to see the mangrove that is located just around the point. If you look at the map (below), you will see that La Ensenada is in two parts: the western half is a preserve, and the eastern half is the working ranch and lodge. Fidel and Albin (from La Ensenada) and Diego host this two hour excursion. It was a fascinating trip, since we cruised right up close to several birds (Pelicans, Great Blue Herons, Osprey, Snowy Ibis, Whimbrels, Roseate Spoonbills, and even a baby alligator was sunning himself on a small log. He stayed around long enough for us to get some photos. Several of the group that went yesterday were soaked on the way back from the wash from the oncoming swells in the late afternoon. Our group did much better - only one of us was hit by the wash.
