Our first trip in '97 we were 'tourists' and last summer we stayed a month and got into the culture. Very interesting. Stayed in a rented house ($400 for the month) in Barva, north of SJ. I also laughed when I saw the references to 1) driving too fast on the road to Volcanoes Nat'l park, and 2) sticking your head in a sulphur vent.
